Features

Prepare for the beekeeping season in the best possible conditions by reserving your ICKO bee nucleus colony on 5 to 6 frames now. Each nucleus colony consists of a carefully selected high-quality mated queen and a colony of vigorous bees ready to grow quickly once installed in the hive.

The nucleus colonies are available in several lines known for their beekeeping qualities:

1. Buckfast nucleus colony

The Buckfast bee is now one of the most popular breeds among both professional and amateur beekeepers.

Its main characteristics are:

  • Very gentle during handling.

  • Rapid spring development.

  • Excellent honey production.

  • Low tendency to swarm.

  • Good adaptability to different environments.

  • Strong foraging activity.

  • A dynamic colony that is easy to manage.

    It is ideal for beekeepers who want to establish a productive colony quickly while keeping hive management comfortable.

    2. Frère Adam nucleus colony

    The Frère Adam line comes directly from the renowned breeding work carried out at Buckfast Abbey.

    It stands out for:

    • Excellent resilience.

    • Very good colony longevity.

    • Particularly calm behavior.

    • Remarkable adaptability to changing weather conditions.

    • Good honey storage capacity.

    • A colony with a good balance between growth and consumption.

      This line is especially sought after for its stability and consistent performance from season to season.

      3. Black bee nucleus colony

      The black bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) is the native bee historically found in many regions of France.

      It offers many advantages:

      • Excellent hardiness.

      • Very good resistance to harsh weather conditions.

      • Low consumption of winter stores.

      • Good overwintering ability.

      • Natural adaptation to its environment.

      • Long lifespan.

      • Preservation of local genetic heritage.

        It is an excellent choice for beekeepers who want to prioritize a native bee particularly well adapted to the different regions of France.

        All nucleus colonies are supplied on 5 to 6 frames, ready to be transferred into a suitable hive to encourage quick establishment and optimal development.

        Because quantities are deliberately limited at the start of the season, reserving ensures that your nucleus colony will be available at the ideal time for installation.

        Benefits

        Choosing an ICKO bee nucleus colony means investing in a carefully selected colony to start the beekeeping season with the best chance of success.

        The main benefits are numerous:

        1. A mated queen selected to ensure consistent egg-laying.

        2. A uniform colony of bees in excellent health.

        3. Rapid development from spring onward.

        4. Easy installation in a suitable Dadant hive.

        5. Excellent honey production potential.

        6. The opportunity to start a new apiary.

        7. An ideal solution for replacing a lost colony.

        8. A quick way to expand your existing stock.

        9. Suitable for both beginner and experienced beekeepers.

        10. Advance reservation helps you avoid stock shortages.

          Availability decreases rapidly from the first few weeks of sales.

          Thanks to their large population and a queen laying at full capacity, ICKO nucleus colonies have excellent growth potential, enabling them to build out frames quickly, develop brood and make the most of the first blooms.

          Why choose these nucleus colonies?

          The success of a beekeeping season depends largely on the quality of the colonies installed in spring. By choosing an ICKO bee nucleus colony, you benefit from breeding selected for vigor, genetic quality and growth potential.

          Whether you are looking for the gentleness and productivity of Buckfast, the balance and stability of Frère Adam, or the exceptional hardiness of the black bee, you will find the line that perfectly matches your beekeeping goals.

          These nucleus colonies are an ideal solution for:

          • getting started in beekeeping under good conditions;

          • quickly expanding an existing apiary;

          • replacing a colony lost during winter;

          • diversifying the lines in your operation;

          • preparing effectively for future honey harvests.

            By choosing ICKO bee nucleus colonies, you are choosing a quality colony selected for a quick start, excellent growth and everything needed for a productive beekeeping season.
